SeaLion Energy is a spinout from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh (USA). https://sealionenergy.comSeaLion solves one of the biggest pain points in electrification: Ability to maximize usable battery capacity without reducing the battery life, allowing safe battery operation under elevated temperatures and operating voltages and charging speeds. Our ultra-thin, conducting polymer coating extends battery life up to 10X and improves safety for just 1–3% of the cell cost. With a $5–10 materials investment, customers can avoid a $400 battery replacement — unlocking a 40× to 80× return. Our coatings can be applied to active materials for cathodes and anodes both on the powders and on cast electrodes. Our customer base can thus be broad - raw material makers to OEMs. We are now scaling SeaLion’s conducting polymer CVD coatings from lab to manufacturing through our recent DOE ARPA-E CIRCULAR award.
