About Ryland di Pilla

With proven ability and skills beyond my years, and well-rounded experience performing and instructing young people, I am seeking opportunities to to inspire students to high levels of performance and enjoyment, and to help make music an enriching part of the rest of their lives. “I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning.” – Plato “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” – Victor Hugo I began piano at age 5, clarinet at 9, guitar at 11, and trumpet at 14. At 14, I started giving lessons to children in guitar and piano. I served 5 years in the high school marching band, 3 as drum major. As a high school senior, I was an intern at the middle school, which included rehearsing and conducting the 6th grade concert band. I completed a two year independent study in music teaching and orchestration, which included private study in most reed, brass, and percussion instruments, and rehearsing and conducting one high school band class weekly. I served for two years as President of Tri-M Chapter and performed as a member of the Philharmonic of Southern NJ. I became Chapter President of the PCMEA as a college freshman and the Region II Coordinator/Executive Board Member as a junior. I also served as Principal trumpet in Concert and Symphony Band, became President of the Campus Interfraternity Music Council (which oversees IUP student music organizations), and was selected as a music teacher (trumpet and guitar) at the IUP Community Music School, which offers instruction to children and adults. Most recently, I was elected Commanding Officer of the 2014 IUP marching band. Over the summers, I am a pool manager. On my breaks, I continue to play in the church band. I\'m an advanced brown belt in karate and I run 5-10k, half-marathons, and marathons.
