The initiative is funded and supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt. of India under the Digital India Campaign in association with BITS Pilani where WeMakeScholars was incubated as a start-up. In 2016, Education loans support was initiated as a free-of-cost service. This service was started with public banks like State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, etc but was later extended to Private banks and NBFCs. To conclude, WeMakeScholars helps study abroad aspirants arranging finance through Scholarships and Education Loans. As of 2019, more than a million students have registered on WeMakeScholars.com for Scholarships and about 100,000 students have requested for education loan help. History: The portal is founded by grads of The University of Sheffield, UK. The idea originated with the struggle the founders had, while searching for scholarships for their masters in 2012. Later, one received the prestigious UK Govt. Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship which fully funded his studies, including visa, travel, tuition fee, monthly stipend & a meeting with David Cameron (British PM) at 10 Downing Street. And, the other received “Developing Solutions Scholarship”. This was when they started an online community to fill the gap b/w opportunities and students. The community grew exponentially to 160K members in a year and members requested to build a dedicated platform to keep the content more organised. Hence, WeMakeScholars.com was born.
