ABOUT REDA RIFFI

I am a senior undergraduate neuroscience student at Case Western Reserve University and an American Cancer Society Scholar at Yale University. My research is centered on developing strategies to combat brain cancer tumors (glioblastoma) by modifying DNA. I focus on molecular mechanisms underlying neural development and neurodegeneration, and brain cancer biology, with an emphasis on DNA damage repair and drug discovery. By targeting particular genes, specifically the DDX11, my research investigates cancer cell viability in the presence and absence of some specific genes. I am funded by the American Cancer Society, the CWRU Undergraduate Research Office, the Case Alumni Association, The College of Arts and Sciences, and Yale School of Medicine. Outside the lab, I am a Cleveland native who has spent much of my life overseas. I am fascinated by the cultural differences among global populations, the concept of world peace, public health, multiculturalism, diversity and inclusion. Born in Ohio, lived in Morocco and graduated from a French high school before spending two years in Tunisia, where I studied in a medical school and served in healthcare during COVID-19. I have been to 41 countries as a way for me to learn from different perspectives. My mission is to promote health equity for the underprivileged, in particular for cancer patients, through community service, leadership, passion for discovery and cancer research. If our interests are aligned, do not hesitate to reach out. I love discussing new ideas, research or travels! You can contact me at r••••••••@yale.edu or R••••••••@case.edu
