ABOUT REBECCA RUIZ

I report on the intersection of mental health, culture, and technology. My areas of expertise include youth online safety, screen time, social media and parenting, meditation/mindfulness, depictions of mental health in entertainment, and suicide prevention. I\'m most interested in helping readers better understand their emotional and psychological well-being, particularly in the context of their life circumstances. With each story, I try to address the tension between recommending certain coping skills and acknowledging that structural forces play a major role in people\'s mental health. I\'ve been reporting on mental health for more than a decade and am a former Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Journalism Fellow.
