ABOUT REBECCA DUDLEY

I currently work with New Zealand Red Cross as International Humanitarian Law Advisor. My background is human rights and gender equality issues with a PhD in international law. I have over 30 years of experience assessing social impacts of law, policy and programmes. I develop professional advocacy and policy briefings, impact strategies, public speaking, group facilitation and training. I have worked successfully with public sector, NGOs and community and church-based organisations. Papers in Humanitarian Law formed part of my LLM, applied in training and policy work. My experience includes 13 years at Christian Aid in London, and 3 yrs at the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission in Belfast. Over 5 yrs at the Police Service of Northern Ireland, I was in charge of human rights training as part of the peace process. I joined Women\'s Aid (domestic violence) as staff, later chairing the Management Board (5 yrs). My research on gender based violence against women includes ground breaking work e.g. on safety and support for migrant women who experience abuse. My research has contributed to discussion and policy at e.g. the Joint Committee on Human Rights in the UK Parliament, the UK Home Office, the Northern Ireland Ministry of Justice, and UN treaty monitoring processes. I design and deliver bespoke education and training in the context of humanitarian law, human rights and social justice. I focus on gender equality/ending gender based violence (UN SDG 5), and building just, peaceful, and inclusive societies (UN SDG16) and workplaces. My work to develop impact strategies has included advocacy, campaigning and awareness raising in public and non-profit sectors. For churches who want to reflect and act on \'social transformation\' as part of their mission, I design and deliver \'transformative adult education:\' critical thinking and faith- based advocacy for practical impacts.
