ABOUT REBECCA SARTO BASSO

I am a passionate and experienced scientist with a deep commitment to advancing drug discovery in oncology. With 8 years in the cancer genomics and drug discovery space—spanning both academia and industry—I have cultivated a unique blend of computational biology expertise, strategic leadership, and cross-functional team management. Over the past few years in industry, I have had the pleasure to lead a multidisciplinary team of biologists, chemists, and data scientists, spearheading efforts to industrialize drug discovery processes and deliver novel therapies faster. Driven by a personal connection to cancer, I made a deliberate pivot from pure math and engineering to apply my skills toward transforming cancer treatment. My role as Senior Scientist at Recursion allowed me to lead early discovery oncology programs, oversee the successful advancement of key projects, and scale our operational capacity by fourfold in one year. I thrive in dynamic environments and have a proven track record of driving innovation, solving complex problems, and fostering collaboration across diverse scientific disciplines. Nothing gives me more pride than seeing the therapies I helped develop improve patients\' lives. I am fortunate to have lead the computational biology strategy for a program currently in clinical trial, with another on the way, making meaningful strides toward addressing unmet medical needs. I bring expertise in computational workflows and am dedicated to applying these tools to accelerate the identification and optimization of novel drug candidates. I believe that industrializing the drug discovery pipeline is key to bringing transformative therapies to patients more efficiently.
