ABOUT REBECCA BECKY SALAMON

I\'m a translational biomarker scientist with expertise across cardiac, pulmonary, and neuromuscular diseases. My work connects the dots between genomics, multi-omics, and clinical strategy.The question I keep coming back to is the same one that pulled me into science: how do we move beyond identifying a genetic link to disease and actually reverse it?I\'ve spent 10+ years chasing that question, building the kind of translational biomarker expertise that travels all the way from cell and animal models to multi-omic integration to clinical submission. What I bring to the table is the ability to synthesize across disciplines and tools to find the signal that moves programs forward.In practice, this looks like: leading biomarker mechanism-of-action and validation studies to support an accelerated approval pathway for a rare neuromuscular disease; driving single-cell analyses to uncover candidate biomarkers and the cell crosstalk driving pulmonary fibrosis; and co-leading a gene therapy study linked to cardiac regeneration in a mammalian model.None of this work happened alone, and that energizes me. I\'m a firm believer that breakthroughs happen at the intersection of different backgrounds and expertise, and in environments where people feel empowered to bring their full thinking to the table. I\'ve seen this in action while building and leading cross-functional teams, mentoring 12+ trainees, and serving as an AI Ambassador bridging biomarker and data science teams.I\'ve also been recognized for my scientific communication, winning best presentation awards across three countries. This matters to me because a strong scientific story is one of the most powerful tools in drug development. It’s what builds alignment, drives collaboration, and ultimately determines what science reaches patients.I also believe who is in the room matters. I\'ve spent my career building spaces where people feel seen and supported to do their best thinking — from leading a Women in Science chapter in undergrad, to serving as vice chair of career development programs reaching 100+ postdocs at UC San Diego, to now leading mentorship groups with the Women in Biology San Diego Chapter.
