About Rebecca Rivera

In October of 2021, I completed 30-years of working in the criminal justice system, first working for the Department of Justice and then as a Senior Probation Officer for the 18th Judicial District in Colorado, and then finishing with Denver Pretrial Services. During my time with Probation I taught Motivational Interviewing through Probation Services within the State Court Administrator\'s Office. I have taught as an Affiliate Criminal Justice Professor for Metropolitan State University of Denver since 2006.Since June 2013, I have taught and mentored men and women returning from prison at a post-secondary level and have designed post-secondary curriculum for correctional education.In 2016, I completed my doctoral research in correctional education and graduated from Creighton University. My dissertation topic: Identifying the Practices that Reduce Criminality Through Community-based Post-secondary Correctional Education. 2022 Recipient of the Scholar in Practice Award from Creighton University.I also work for Colorado State University Global as a faculty lead in their Criminal Justice and Criminology Masters and Bachelor Program.
