Experience
Curator
Oct 2012 — Present
As an independent curator I conceive of and propose exhibitions to various art spaces. My interest lies with contemporary art that engages politics or cuts through the limitations of traditional media. With a soft spot for installation, I am currently fascinated with discourses on art and craft. I also like to uncover artists that never received their proper due. Exhibitions:Associate Curator, Remember the Women Institute,\"Representations of Sexual Violence during the Holocaust,\" exhibition opening spring 2018. Guest Curator, The Jewish Theological Seminary, Arts Advisory Board Exhibition \"Traversing Tradition: Transformation in and of Contemporary Jewish Life,\" September 2015 - June 2016. Exhibition focused on transformation and spirituality within contemporary Jewish culture. Artists responded to, questioned, and reinterpreted Jewish texts and rituals related to death, birth, prayer, dietary laws, gender identity and sacred space. Curator, Devotion/Destruction: Craft Inheritance, Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs, Long Island City, New York, January 17 - March 27, 2016. Devotion/Destruction presented artworks created as a result of formal investigations into the materials and methods historically affiliated with “craft.” Artists included in this exhibition are those who’s intense study of traditional methods for producing craft objects and extended relationship with these objects have lead them to a place of intimate inquiry into the inherent materiality of their medium. Moving beyond the functional, each work in this exhibition took shape as an abstract investigation into material and process. What remains from the inheritance of tradition is a space for considering the socio-historical constructs of traditional craft production and its intersection with gender, labor and class.
