Freak: The True Story of an Insecurity Addict is a memoir I wrote about the first third/half of my life. It started out as an exercise journal suggested by my brilliant therapist Beverly Wright, whom I’d gone to for help with reclaiming my memories from childhood traumatic amnesia. She suggested I expand it into a book. “I think you can help a lot of people with this.” That hooked me. I’ve always loved helping others. So I poured my whole crazy, brutal truth into this thing, refusing to make it pretty, determined to make it true. I’m no hero in this. I’m a screwed up basket case of a mess in it. But It helped me realize I could change. I want my behavior, tragically ludicrous as it was, to help inspire others to not go down the suicidal, lousy friend or spouse judging, self harming, wise-cracking, dumbass road I traveled. Here’s a sign for that path: “Beyond here, there be dragons.” Nine readers of the self-published version have written and told me Freak helped them to not commit suicide. That’s an unimaginable honor. With its new release of Spring 2024, its reach will be global. May it help millions of my brothers and sisters of circumstance.
