ABOUT REBECCA BURTON

I get to work with incredible educators each day to do great things for our kids, families & community. Our mission at Lemon Grove School District is to build educational equity for all students through multi-tiered systems of support; but what that really means is engaging every person across all levels and groups to work together to fit every child\'s puzzle piece into the picture. It\'s people moving mountains for each other, supporting each other and challenging each other. It\'s honestly really amazing what we wake up and do every day, and I absolutely love it.Being in education is incredibly challenging, deeply personal and unbelievably essential for our future generations. Creating empowered teams for collaborative decision making, implementing intentional & thoughtful systems and developing powerful PD\'s are just some of the ways that our team tries to do that. Equity, Justice and the celebration of Diversity are essential to make these systems meaningful.Things I love doing-Examining equity issues & challenging status quo -MTSS anything-Whole child education-Inclusion and high quality programming for students with special needs-Building community schools together-Mental health supports for students, families & staff-Family & Community Engagement-Strategic planning-Continuous learning, reflecting and improvingSome accomplishments I\'m incredibly proud of-Acquiring and overseeing nearly $10 million in grant funding from state and federal education grants for our district through Community Schools (5 out of 8 of our schools are part of this incredible grant) and the School Based Mental Health Federal grant-Establishing and collaboratively leading our MTSS work around the whole child-Expanding our Family & Community Engagement team from one central staff member to 11 dedicated team members across the district-Continuously building our high quality programming & inclusion for our students with special needs -Taking on safety and security for the district, bringing training and codified systems for threat assessment and active shooter response-Creating student-centered behavior and discipline practices that integrate Restorative Practices, PBIS, and tiered intervention services; resulting in dramatic drops for the most serious ed code violations, and decreasing suspensions -Continually reducing chronic absenteeism and increasing ADA year over year If you made it this far reading my bio, you should get a fresh baked cookie.(I don\'t actually have one but you can go grab yourself one. You\'ve earned it).
