ABOUT REBECCA BARNES

Rebecca (Becky) is president of Capital Ideas Inc, an issues management firm specializing in marketing communications and governmental relations for a diverse range of clients. With 39 years of marketing and governmental relations experience, Rebecca directs clients through the process of market research, strategic planning and the development of communications strategies. Over the past 20 years, she has focused on environmental and sustainability issues from land conservation, community beautification to litter control. She holds a bachelor and master’s degree in Journalism from the University of South Carolina and was accredited by the Public Relations Society of America in 1987. She is a graduate of Leadership Columbia and Leadership Spartanburg. Rebecca has served as an officer and director on numerous boards including: Ten at the Top, The American Red Cross, Foothills Humane Society, The Spartanburg Humane Society, The Pacolet Area Conservancy, YMCA of Spartanburg, the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center, The Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Regents, Spartanburg Rape Crisis Center, Keep Spartanburg County Clean, Share the Vision, and the Columbia, Charleston and Spartanburg Advertising Federations. In 2002, the South Carolina Business and Professional Women’s Association named Rebecca Business Woman of the Year. Rebecca is a past president of the Tryon Fine Arts Center and The Tryon Hounds Board of Directors. Currently serves on the Board of the Foothills Humane Society and the Tryon Fine Arts Center. She is a former Master of Foxhounds with the Tryon Hounds. An avid music lover and equestrian. Rebecca lives in Charleston South Carolina.
