Through the City of Alexandria Office of Emergency Management (OEM), my role is Volunteer Coordinator. Through Volunteer Alexandria, as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, I am responsible for recruitment and management of the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) and Disaster Donations Management (DDM) programs in the City of Alexandria. I also support the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program as the Teen CERT coordinator in providing CERT training to teens ages 14-18 in the City of Alexandria. I provide educational and outreach opportunities for the general public on Emergency Preparedness, and recruitment and training for the volunteer programs of Teen CERT, the VRC, and DDM programs. The VRC handles spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers during a disaster, and deploys them to necessary areas. The DDM handles Donations Management in a disaster, and works with local and regional non profits to get donations where they are needed. CERT trains volunteers to assist professionals in time of disaster, and engage their homes and communities in emergency Preparedness, thereby creating more sustainable and resilient communities in times of emergency and disaster.
