About Rob Earle
I bring over 30 years of hands-on maritime experience to the classroom and the wheelhouse. From steward to captain, I’ve worked aboard cruise ships, fast ferries, yachts, and research vessels. Now, as an instructor at Seattle Maritime Academy, I develop and deliver STCW-compliant courses in navigation, survival craft, ship stability, and more. My passion is helping new mariners — and veteran seafarers — build the skills, safety mindset, and confidence they need to thrive. I’ve trained recreational boaters, aspiring Able Seafarers, and ferry crew working toward unlimited licenses. In addition to my instructional work, I write fiction and nonfiction centered on the maritime world. I’m a two-time winner of the “Stories of the Sea” contest and am developing a series of time-travel short stories about a research vessel crew exploring Earth’s ancient past.
