About Reagan Jackson
My first love is writing. I am the author of 6 published books including Still True: The Evolution of an Unexpected Journalist (Hinton Publishing 2024) which recently received an Independent Book Award, as well as over 100 articles published with various outlets including the Seattle Globalist, the South Seattle Emerald, Crosscut, Seattle Times, Madison Times and more. Writing has been catalyst for my travels and travel exposed me to my love of youth work. I began volunteering as a mentor and tutor at age 18 through Seattle Interagency Schools. After a year they hired me to train volunteers and mentors. I was a classroom teacher of English and Spanish for almost 5 years, a community organizer for 2 years, a study abroad program manager and director and the Assistant Director of Latin American Studies at the UW. I found a home with Young Women Empowered 9 years ago. I love facilitating, curriculum design and building communities of belonging. Y-WE has given me the opportunity to build programs that meet teens where they are and provide them with a radical welcome, space to show up as their authentic selves, supportive community, excellent snacks and opportunities to learn, grow, and lead. In addition to my work with Y-WE I co-host and produce the Deep End Friends Podcast. We have over 70 episodes where we interview incredible BIPOC folks about their love, liberation, inspiration, rites of passage and legacies. I am also a visual artist, a ukulele player, singer, song writer, and a damn good cook. I\'m always excited for my next adventure.
