About Robert Cheetham
I am the former Founder and CEO of Azavea, a B Corporation based in Philadelphia. These days I work on geospatial open source and open data projects as well as writing the Japan Earth Observer (JEO) newsletter, through which I write about the space, Earth observation, and geospatial industry in Japan.I believe that many of the problems we face today - from climate change and biodiversity to democracy and justice - are intertwined with geography and place and can only be addressed by communities of people working together. I founded Azavea to build innovative geospatial technology and apply it for civic, social, and environmental impact. Since selling Azavea in 2023, I remain motivated by the opportunity to apply geospatial technology to help people make better decisions about their communities and our planet.
