About Raza Ahmad Rumi
Raza Ahmad Rumi is a policy analyst, international development practitioner and an author. Presently, he is Distinguished lecturer at City University of New York. Earlier, he was the Director, Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College (20••••24). He is also Faculty at Brooks School of Public Policy, Cornell University. During 20••••17, Raza taught courses in journalism and writing departments at Ithaca College. In 2016, he taught at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, New York University. Raza has been a fellow at the New America Foundation, United States Institute of Peace and a member of think tank at Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics, Georgetown University. Raza is also editor of The Friday Times, The Edge and Ideas and Future. He is also the founder of NayaDaur Media. Raza edited Pakistan\'s leading newspaper Daily Times, and also worked as a TV broadcaster in Pakistan before he moved to the United States in 2014. Raza has been a fellow at New America Foundation (2014); United States Institute of Peace (Sept 2014-March 2015). He remains a senior fellow at the Jinnah Institute in Islamabad.Raza was also a commentator and has contributed to Foreign Policy, Huffington Post, New York Times, The Diplomat, Fair Observer, CNN and Al Jazeera, Daily O, Scroll India, The Hindu and Indian Express. His columns for the Express Tribune are archived at to his foray in journalism, Raza worked as a governance and capacity development specialist for the Asian Development Bank, the Government of Pakistan, a number of Pakistani nongovernmental organizations, and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. He has advised UNICEF, UNDP, UNOPS, World Bank, UKAid and other international development organisations. His areas of expertise include governance, social development and security and communications.He joined the Pakistan Administrative Service (formerly DMG) in 1994 after topping the civil service examination. He holds a Bachelor’s in Economics and a Masters in Social Planning, both from the London School of Economics. He has also been trained in law and public administration at the Civil Services Academy in Lahore. Raza is the author of Delhi by Heart: Impressions of a Pakistani Traveller, The Fractious Path: Pakistan’s Democratic Transition and Identity and Faith and Conflict. His most recent book Being Pakistani: Society Culture and the Arts was published in June 2018 by Harper Collins. He co-edited a volume of essays entitled Rethinking Pakistan that was published by Anthem Press in September 2020.
