ABOUT RAYON RYAN CHAN
I currently serve as a Crime Victim Advocate – Health Specialist Investigator with Safe Horizon–NYPD in Queens, providing trauma-informed, survivor-centered support to individuals impacted by crime. My work includes investigating cases, addressing social determinants of health, and connecting survivors to mental health counseling, legal assistance, and crisis intervention services. I collaborate with law enforcement and community partners to promote safety, healing, and justice, particularly for marginalized and underserved populations.I am a graduate of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy and a prospective PhD candidate. My academic interests focus on health equity, trauma-informed policy, and structural barriers within healthcare and public service systems. As a first-generation college graduate, I earned an Associate’s degree in Applied Science Accounting from BMCC and a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education with a minor in Accounting from York College (CUNY). This interdisciplinary background informs my policy and systems-oriented research lens.I am also a special education teacher, supporting students on the autism spectrum by addressing mental health needs and providing individualized guidance. Additionally, my experience in healthcare finance at Jamaica Hospital and my work as a licensed real estate agent have strengthened my understanding of healthcare systems and housing as critical social determinants of health.Across all roles, I am committed to advancing equity-driven research and practice that center lived experience and inform systemic change.
