About Ray Schafer
I came out of my retirement to work for Lighthouse Solar. When I looked at installing a Solar system on my home in September of 2019, I researched installers. Lighthouse Solar stood out because they had 5 star reviews in Yelp and Google. Indeed, more than the other three companies I looked into, they listened to what I really wanted, and designed a system that fit my needs. It was a great experience. After a year of being retired, I wanted to do something useful for our planet and the environment. That lead to me to solar energy, and my experience with Lighthouse Solar lead me to apply there. At Rubrik, my job entailed keeping abreast of the strengths and weaknesses of our competition, and distilling this competitive intelligence for use by our sales teams.I am most keenly interested in learning about customer needs and issues around data protection and disaster recovery and discussing how to use Rubrik’s next generation backup technologies to solve these problems. As a Gartner analyst, I was responsible for research reports and client inquiries regarding enterprise storage software and data protection topics, including those involving data replication, snapshots, storage consolidation / virtualization, and cloud-based backup/recovery.At Veritas Technologies, LLC, I worked as a Data Center Resiliency Architect at VERITAS and assisted customers with transforming modern data centers to maximize resiliency and performance and minimize cost. From 2007 to 2015, as one of the founders and the CTO of InQuinox, a company founded to provide the best solutions for the worse problems in data protection, I provided deep consulting expertise in Data Protection, and provided the initial ideas for a product (SanXfer) that we developed to assist in the migration of systems to new hardware and storage. Before December of 2007 I was employed by Symantec corporation as a Senior Principal Technical Product Manager. I provided deep knowledge for the field sales force for the NetBackup product, worked closely with Engineering to improve functionality.I have always been very adept at solving problems. While working for The Kernel Group (TKG) I was a member of the team that invented the Bare Metal Restore Product, the technology that is now part of the NetBackup product today. Before TKG I worked for International Business Machines, most recently in the AIX Development team in the Base Device Drivers area. I started at IBM in 1992.Specialties: Inventor; Problem Solver; Technology Futurist; Presenter; Educator and Course Developer; Technology Ambassador.
