ABOUT RAYMOND MASSA-BETANCOURT
After majoring in Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), I completed graduate work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and hired into the energy industry with Exxon\'s Central Engineering offices in New Jersey. My first assignment involved modernizing the electric power/steam production facilities at Esso\'s Refinery in the island of Aruba.Exxon transferred me to the Greater Houston area (i.e, the energy capital of the world) and I developed my career of over 40 years in the Gulf Coast area working energy projects in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida. This includes teaching part-time at Lee College on subjects related to the energy industry and business management. Concurrently, I completed graduate engineering work at the University of Houston in Control Systems Engineering. In parallel, I pursued a part-time career with the Air Force Reserves as a Telecommunications Officer over a 37 year period. This included tours of duty with the Air National Guard in Puerto Rico, New York, New Jersey and Texas.Currently morphing into a writer, I am working on my first trilogy of novels. The University of Houston\'s renowned Creative Writing program is helping me polish my skill set. This next chapter in my life allows me to spend some of the time in Texas, some of the time in Puerto Rico and more of the time visiting the sites where my novels take place. There is a lot to explore in locations that I haven\'t seen and that inspire my imagination. My creative team includes my wife (a Fashion Designer and Master Quilter), my son (a Special Effects producer for the Cinema/TV industry), my daughter (an Environmental Scientist specializing in native plants) and my son-in-law (a Cinema/TV Screenplay Writer and Graphic Designer). With so many interests, I stay in shape by playing racquetball with my wife and exercising at the local YMCA to maintain my energy level. Tai Chi and Restorative Yoga are my tools for stretching, relaxing and meditating.
