ABOUT RAYMOND DANKS
I was most recently a Senior Machine Learning Scientist and first full-time employee at PhycoWorks, focusing on AI applications in molecular biology and bioprocess optimisation. Prior to this I was part of the Entrepreneur First program - a prestigious startup accelerator. I achieved 82% in MSc Robotics and Computation at UCL, with a full scholarship from Google DeepMind. After achieving 87% in my Deep Learning-based thesis, I published a paper as first-author in IJCARS and presented it at IPCAI. The paper has received ~50 citations to date.Coming from a low income background and as the first in my family to go to university, I am a passionate advocate of social mobility. I received the DeepMind Scholarship, which seeks to support excellent CS students from underrepresented backgrounds, and have written content on the mental health implications of social mobility. I attained a black belt in karate at 11 years old and my 3rd Dan at 16 years old - I have also studied Thai Boxing and taught and practised Judo.
