   The Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) is a federally recognized accrediting organization that began in 1926 under the name “National Home Study Council”. In 1994, the organization changed its name to the “Distance Education and Training Council” and adopted the current name in 2005. The commission has been recognized by the US Department of Education since 1959. The main function of the commission is to accredit institutions that provide education primarily using distance education modalities.Key Accomplishments:· Initiated monthly webinars in areas related to institutional effectiveness and strategic planning· Initiated IE “office hours”· Mixed-methods research study in support of program of review· Presentations at DEAC workshops and conferencesKey Accountabilities:· Direct report to the Executive Director· Develop DEAC surveys· Analyze quantitative and qualitative data collected by the commission· Revitalizing the DEAC Annual Report· Leading the DEAC review of accreditation standards processes· Serving as an in-house consultant to member institutions in areas related to strategic planning and institutional effectiveness
