About Ratih Ayu Apsari
I am a Ph.D. student in the Learning Sciences and Human Development (LSHD) cluster at the Berkeley School of Education, University of California, Berkeley. My research interests include embodied cognition, design-based research, cultural funds of knowledge, and cross-cultural epistemic diversity.Currently, I am leading a project called GRiD—Geometry Resources in Dance (bit.ly/GRiD)—which explores how movement pedagogy and traditional Balinese dance can support children\'s mathematical reasoning. Through this work, I aim to bridge cultural practices and mathematics education by designing learning environments that are both rigorous and rooted in local knowledge systems.Beyond academia, I am committed to educational equity and actively contribute to community initiatives focused on designing joyful, meaningful, and accessible math learning tools for children. In my spare time, I practice yoga and Balinese dance.
