Biotechnology Applications-1.Red Biotechnology -Applied to medical processes e.g. designing of organisms to produce antibiotics, engineering of genetic cures through genomic manipulation, rose plant began as cells grown in a tissue culture 2.Green Biotechnology -Applied to agriculture processes, e.g. selection and domestication of plants via micro-propagation to design transgenic plants to grow under specific environmental conditions/ presence or absence of certain agricultural chemicals. It provides more environmental friendly solutions than traditional industrial agriculture e.g. of this is engineering of plant to express a pesticide thereby eliminating the need for external application of pesticides e.g. Bt corn3.White Biotechnology -Also known as industrial biotechnology e.g. Designing of an organism to produce useful chemicals using enzymes as industrial catalysts to either produce valuable chemicals or to destroy hazardous/polluting chemicals 4.Blue Biotechnology -Marine and aquatic applications of biotechnology. Use is relatively rare. Investment and economic outputs of all these types of applied biotechnologies form bio-economy.Biotechnology has following major industrial areas-*Health care and Medicine *Crop production improvement and Agriculture*Non-food uses of crops and other products(biodegradable plastics,vegetable oil,biofuels etc.)*Environmental uses*Manufacture of organic products (beer, milk products, etc.)*Naturally present bacteria by mining industry (bioleaching)*Used to recycle- treat waste & cleanup sites contaminated by industrial activity (Bio-remediation)
