About Rashmi Chakravarty
At the heart of my work as a social/development practitioner is the belief that those creating impact on the ground deserve the strongest possible support behind them. That\'s what draws me to the social and development sector, and what keeps me here. I also believe that working in this space comes with a responsibility: to be aware of the relative privilege each of us carries, and to ensure that awareness actively shapes that we meaningfully contribute rather than appropriate space. With that as a grounding principle, I work with grassroots NGOs across India to help them grow and sustain their impact. This includes building strategy, designing and strengthening MLE systems, and narrative and evidence building, helping organizations tell the story of their work in ways that go beyond numbers. I have a genuine knack for data, both quantitative and qualitative; because numbers alone rarely capture the full picture of change, particularly when it comes to movement building, norm shifts, and systemic transformation. Gender equity and norm change is an area I care about deeply, both professionally and personally, and it is where much of my work and curiosity sits. My Masters in Social Work, with a focus on Women-Centred Practice, has helped me develop a gender lens and that actively shapes my worldview as well as the work I do. I have also come to believe that lasting change in the sector doesn\'t happen in silos. It requires different players to be in conversation with each other. So beyond working directly with grassroots organizations, my approach involves engaging funders and philanthropists, and working across system-level stakeholders to ensure that support actually reaches where it matters.
