Wild Orca joins Seadoc Society: Working under leading killer whale researcher Dr. Deborah Giles to collect and analyze feces and behavior data of critically endangered Southern Resident killer whales. 4 months of ocean-going data collection with a trained scent-detection dog, onboard wet lab, vessel-based data collectors such as range finders.Managed onboard fecal sample processing, utilizing range finders, Photo ID image capturing, and sterilizing methods. Found 9% decrease in rest and socialization, and an increase in foraging, a result of a decline of their prey base: chinook salmon.
