ABOUT RAPHAEL LLOREN

Since my childhood, I’ve been passionate about two things: mathematics and helping people. For me, becoming an actuary is a calling to apply both passions and to use it to leave the world a better place. MY ACTUARIAL ORIGIN STORYLike any good superhero, there’s an origin story.Picture this. I’m 11 years old. Begging my grandfather to buy me a giant pirate ship Lego set for my 12th birthday as a joint birthday & Xmas gift. Instead of outright buying the set for me like any doting Asian grandparent would, he put me to work! He made me do the book-keeping and reporting for the family farm FOR 6 MONTHS. No Excel. All handwritten journal entries. Typewriter. Calculator - the ones with the receipt.The enterprising man thought he had me and that I wouldn’t follow through. Instead, I went to work. I learned about the farm and the market the farm served. The changes in crop quality/quantity, effects of weather, market prices all fascinated me. A situation that would’ve birthed a humanities major. Instead produced the exact opposite. A risk analyst. An actuary. An actuary who now has 50% of ACAS requirements completed.
