About Ranney Mize

Dr. R. Ranney Mize is Professor Emeritus of Cell Biology-Anatomy and Co-Dir Emeritus of the Interdisciplinary Training Prog in Neuroscience at LSU Health Sci Ctr, New Orleans. He served as Dept Head of Cell Biology-Anatomy from 19••••03 and as Professor until 2015. He earned his B.A. Degree from Northwestern Univ.(1964) and his M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees from the Univ of Chicago (1975). He was a Research Fellow at the Univ. of Pennsylvania (19••••77), and an Assistant to Full Professor of Anatomy-Neurobiology and Co-Dir of the Ctr for Neuroscience at the Univ. of Tennessee Health Sci Ctr (19••••91). He was Visiting Prof, Inst. of Ophthalmology, Univ. College London (2002) and President, Assoc Neuroscience Departments Programs (1997-99).Dr. Mize has been a community leader for the performance arts since arrival in New Orleans. He is Immediate Past President of the Bd of Trustees of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), and served as its President and Vice Pres (20•••••19). He and his wife founded the Seibel Society which provides donor support to the LPO in honor of its first Music Dir. He is a Friend of the NY Philharmonic.He is also on the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Opera. He previously served for 3 years as its President, 3 years as Vice Pres and Officer of Development and 2 years as its Vice President. He chaired the Maestro Circle and Mastersigners, donor support groups. Nationally, he is an Ambassador of Opera America and a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild, New York City.Dr. Mize was an Officer of the Arts Council of New Orleans until 2016; and on the Boards of the New Orleans Friends of Music (President 20••••12); Southern Rep Theater; and the Visiting Committee of Loyola Univ. School of Music. Community awards include the Integritas Vitae Award from Loyola Univ, Arts Patron Award from Gambit Tribute to Classical Arts, and Role Model from the Young Leadership Council. Most recently, he was voted a Life Trustee of the LPO.
