About Rania Hussein
Prof. Rania Hussein is a Teaching Professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle campus. She currently serves as the vice chair of the faculty Senate at UW besides being appointed by WA Governor Ferguson to the board of trustees of Cascadia College. Dr Hussein is the Founder and Director of the Remote Hub Lab, and the Associate Director of the Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on embedded systems, digital twinning, remote engineering, medical image analysis, and engineering education. She is the recipient of Region 6 outstanding engineering educator, mentor, facilitator in the area of STEM award in 2023, citing \"for excellence in advancing students success, mentorship, empowering under-represented communities, and promoting equitable access in engineering education\". She is also the recipient of the innovative program award from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA) in 2022. In addition to her technical expertise, Dr. Hussein has extensive experience in project management and community leadership. Her efforts contributed to the building and passing of SB-5166 Bill into WA State law in 2019. The religious accommodation law requires post-secondary institutions to provide alternate exam accommodations for students due to religious observance. This accommodation became part of the syllabi of higher educational institutions in the State of WA.Before joining UW, she was a Research Engineer at the Walt Disney Company, where she worked on software development and the evaluation of disruptive and cutting-edge technologies.
