About Randy Evans
I am a passionate engineer who not only seeks self-improvement, but to improve his team. I value learning and achievement as I come up with novel, well thought-out solutions to problems. I have enjoyed my 11 years at SAS helping us create better software, and improving how we create software through 6 promotions in about 8 managers, I look forward to working with my next team to find our bottlenecks and solve the problems that make substantive change (ht E. Goldratt and Gene Kim, et. al.)- especially by focusing on going slow to be smooth, and being smooth to go fast (ht Navy SEALs).Starting as an Sr. Associate Analytical Tester the SAS\'s Retail division, I strove to understand what was important to customers or fragile, and focus my efforts on those areas. After a quick promotion, I was able to absorb a colleague\'s work by automating most of, really kicking off my love of automation for rote tasks. While deeply involved in a transformational project that would substantially reduce costs, I was moved to a new role in Model Management. In SAS Model Management as a Software Tester, I was able to use my analytical knowhow to represent the customer\'s perspective, and immediately began to identify critical points of failure and automate testing, pushing the automation left in order to provide developers fast feedback. At this stage, I began to become more focused on process engineering for development, and after automating much of the testing for Model Management, moved on to SAS Intelligent Decisioning to do much the same there.A former Retail colleague invited me to join him in a Productivity Engineering role, where I took on the Senior Software Developer title. We worked to improve our Story management process and increase automation as I had begun to do in my previous roles. Additionally, I picked up k8s and software architecture, in order to further improve the way we build software, and was promoted to Principal Software Developer.I\'m looking to keep growing my skills in whatever position I land in, and help teams grow their ability to create world-class software smoothly and quickly.
