About Randy Dinata
I’m a Senior Engineer specializing in oil, natural gas, and hydrogen, with over a decade of experience bridging traditional petroleum systems with emerging low-carbon energy technologies. My expertise spans process design, flow assurance, and pipeline/well system modeling, helping operators and utilities integrate hydrogen safely and efficiently into existing natural gas networks. At DNV, I lead projects on hydrogen blending into existing pipelines, purpose-built hydrogen facilities, and natural gas facilities while my previous experience at GATE Energy involved optimizing oil and gas production systems across offshore and onshore assets worldwide. I’m driven by the challenge of combining deep oil and gas knowledge with innovative low-carbon solutions to build a safer, more reliable, and sustainable energy future.
Experience
Senior Engineer - Natural Gas, Hydrogen, and Low Carbon Fuels
Feb 2022 — Present
Performed transient and steady-state flow modeling of pipelines using various engineering software (Unisim, Synergi Gas, SPS, HYSYS) for hydrogen and natural gas transportation, storage, and processing.• Conducted a root cause analysis (RCA) for liquid condensation issues in onshore gas pipelines.• Conducted independent engineering review of compressed air energy storage (CAES).• Design process control, compression, and storage systems for a green hydrogen pilot project.• Evaluate the integration of a green hydrogen facility and an ammonia synthesis process.• Design a blending station to premix natural gas and hydrogen before pipeline injection.• Assess the feasibility of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Production, Transportation, and Storage projects• Evaluate pipeline capacity and CAPEX/OPEX for transporting gaseous hydrogen, ammonia, and CO2.• Perform a techno-economic analysis of hydrogen transport via trucking, pipeline, and organic carrier.• Assess pipeline material compatibility with hydrogen.• Characterize the mixing of hydrogen and natural gas at and near the pipeline injection point.• Summarize the current hydrogen pipeline infrastructure in North America and highlight best practices.• Develop guidelines for the use of standards in the hydrogen economy: production, transportation, and end use.• Conduct a feasibility study on natural gas-hydrogen blending, which includes- Pipeline: materials, design, threats, and integrity management- Compressor station: gas engines, gas turbines, compressors (reciprocating and centrifugal)- Metering and regulating stations- Underground gas storage- Pipeline transport hydraulic capacity- Characterization of gas properties- End-use equipment (boilers, heaters, and standby generators)
