ABOUT RAND EKMAN
Rand Ekman is Chief Sustainability Officer at HKS. Rand has a passion both for projects and for driving broad-based, measurable change in practice. He has a bachelor’s in philosophy and a masters in architecture. Rand was the 2012 AIA Chicago President, and 2015 AIA COTE Chair. He continues to be involved in the AIA’s 2030 Commitment program and has held Board positions on the AIA Chicago, the Illinois Green Alliance and the Health Product Declaration Collaborative.Rand’s small urban backyard is inhabited by chickens. This adaptive reuse of his children’s playhouse into a chicken coop informed his opinion that the chicken absolutely came before the egg.
