ABOUT RAMONA PRINGLE
I am a creator, storyteller, educator and researcher focused on the intersection of technology and the human experience. Creatively, I head up a boutique production studio specializing in interactive and multiplatform media. Most recently, I wrote and directed Avatar Secrets, an interactive documentary designed for the iPad. Produced for TVO, Avatar Secrets launched in Canada with a transmedia campaign including broadcast promotion through TVO, a national editorial campaign in Metro News including print coverage and a limited run webseries, large screen outdoor video signage in downtown Toronto, and banner placement as a “Best New App” in the App Store for 10 weeks. Avatar Secrets was featured at Social Media Week, i-docs in Bristol, Power to the Pixel in London, & at TFI Interactive, part of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The project was selected to represent Canada as part of the Telefilm delegation to MIPDOC in Cannes, and was the first interactive project to be featured in the official program of Hot Docs, North America’s largest documentary film festival. Academically, I focus on innovation in storytelling, interaction design, and the intersection of digital media and our lives. I am an Assistant Professor in the RTA School of Media at Ryerson University, Canada’s preeminent school of media. I\'m the Creative Director in the Transmedia Zone, an incubator for the future of content, and the Concentration Coordination in Narrative Media. I teach classes in the Media Production BA, the New Media BFA, and the Masters in Digital Media. As an educator my work straddles industry and academia. I am a proponent of experiential education & lifelong learning, which influences everything I do, fostering discussion, exploration, and community engagement through the integration of media, technology, and narrative. I am a frequent contributor to news media, including CBC, TVO and CTV speaking on topics of technology, digital culture, and creative innovation.
