ABOUT RAMIL BAIAZITOV
I am a medicinal chemistry leader with 17 years of experience in small-molecule drug discovery. Four CNS-penetrant clinical candidates have been nominated with my participation, including one under my leadership. My expertise spans modern medicinal and organic chemistry, reflected in my publications and patents. As the first author of five peer-reviewed papers from PTC Therapeutics, I have a strong foundation in the field. I published discoveries in oncology/immunology, genetic diseases, the synthesis and reactivity of heterocycles (SNAr and cross-coupling), aminoglycosides, and nucleosides. In a recent role at PTC, I spearheaded an oncology/immunology DHODH project, resulting in the nomination of a brain-penetrant clinical candidate and its sp3-rich backup. Later, my team of 5 internal FTEs, supplemented by CRO chemists, successfully discovered several sp3-rich compounds for a neuroscience project with excellent CNS-drug-like properties and a PK-PD response. I proposed and improved the unbound brain concentration by increasing the aqueous solubility. This also showcases my expertise in DMPK and multiparameter optimization. Unesbulin is currently under study in two clinical trials, including a pediatric brain tumor trial. I was a key member of the team that brought it from the Hit-ID to the IND-enabling studies. My proficiency extends to RNA-targeting small molecule research, where I recently led an RNA alternative splicing project. I contributed significantly to various initiatives in nonsense suppression and RNA alternative splicing.Beyond my technical prowess, I excel in building and leading high-performing internal and external teams through effective talent acquisition and development. I developed an efficient system to organize external CRO work, focusing on meticulous documentation of experimental and analytical information for future use, whether for patent applications or scientific publications. I am dedicated to collaborative efforts and thrive on working with others to achieve common goals. At Reneubio, I lead chemistry and DMPK efforts to identify small-molecule activators of neural stem cells. We are achieving promising results by using both traditional and innovative drug discovery methods.
