About Ramie Fathy

As a Dermatology Resident at Johns Hopkins, I am passionate about patient advocacy, medical education, and autoimmune skin disease.I am convinced that AI will revolutionize medicine, augmenting the clinician\'s ability to provide high-quality care and eliminating the majority of administrative tasks that stand between the clinician and the patient. My efforts towards building this future began as an AI Clinical Fellow and Project Lead at Glass Health. My current research at Johns Hopkins involves spearheading studies on the use of AI in dermatology, from analyzing dermoscopic images to enhancing the performance of question-answering tools for both patients and physicians. This work is complemented by my investigation into the utility of 3D teledermatology and mixed reality headsets in clinical evaluations.I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania\'s Perelman School of Medicine, where I was a 21st-Century Gamble Endowed Scholar and an Alpha Omega Alpha inductee. During medical school, my research spanned online medical misinformation, telehealth access, antibiotic overuse, and the cutaneous impacts of COVID-19. Amid the pandemic, I founded a city-wide, volunteer initiative to address its repercussions and contributed as a medical writer for ABC News and Medscape.Prior to medical school, I served as a Premedical Intern at UCSF Breast Care Center, focusing on the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of treatments in the Radiation Oncology Department. I also worked directly with patients to help them prepare for and make the most of their appointments at the Breast Care Center. My love for communication led me to serve as an editor and producer for UCSF\'s science podcast, Carry the One Radio. In 2016, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University, majoring in Molecular Biology with a certificate in Neuroscience. My interest in education was amplified by my time as the Undergraduate Student Government\'s Academics Chair. In this role, I headed a university-wide survey and advocacy effort to modernize the academic calendar, ultimately leading to the establishment of a new monthlong period for students to explore extracurricular and pre-professional interests.I am dedicated to advancing the fields of rheumatology-dermatology and complex inpatient dermatology by integrating my expertise in technology and medical education. By applying insights from my work in AI and curriculum development, I aim to improve diagnostic accuracy and develop new frameworks for patient and physician education.
