I am a systems guy, deeply interested in all aspects of creating mission critical enterprise software for analyzing and managing vast amounts of data.I have spent much of the last decade on open source big data platforms both on-premise and in the public clouds. It has been a privilege to help shape the big data revolution where petabyte scale data processing and management is now well within the grasp of most enterprises.But that is in the past. Our customers only want to increase the velocity with which they realize value from their data in their quest to be more data driven. I am excited by the applicability of disruptive modern data architectures such as lakehouse, data fabric and data mesh. The pendulum will continue to swing between centralization through data lakes and lake houses and the impending decentralization with data mesh. To paraphrase Stonebraker, in data models and in life change is the only constant, the trick is to have fun along the way and make every journey count.
