About Ralph Crewe
I am a professional nerd and think of myself primarily as a hyper-curious person. I am a writer/producer at Practical Engineering, where we make extraordinary explainer videos about the large-scale built world, inspiring curiosity and wonder in all kinds of folks, from kids to professional engineers and beyond. I am also the Chief Communications Officer at Perforated AI, where our novel dendritic technology has revolutionized the fundamental building block of AI, the artificial neuron. We use artificial dendrites to make neural networks far smarter, smaller, and more accurate (e.g, 10x smaller while still more accurate than the same network without dendrites).In what little spare time I have left, I host Pittsburgh\'s Nerd Nite, a hilarious, fun gathering for all kinds of nerds (everyone is welcome). Think of it as TED talks, but with beer, comedy, and making friends with new people. I also work as a freelance electric bassist (my current profile pic is me at Stage AE playing with the Commonheart in 2023). My father was a professional musician (Murray Crewe, for principal bass trombone for the Pittsburgh Symphony), and music is an integral part of my life. I play the piano occasionally at a church and all the time in my living room for my son and my own enjoyment.I am a competitive birder, a recovering planetarium person and continuing space nerd, a cyclist, a crossword nut, and most importantly, a husband & father.
