About Randy Lee
I am a biomedical engineer with expertise in medical devices, surgical robotics, haptics, and psychophysics. I am currently a Principal Systems Engineer at Bayer. In my role at Bayer, I provide R&D engineering support to lifecycle and new product development projects in the field of Radiology.I joined Bayer in 2017 after defending my PhD in Bioengineering under the direction of Prof. George D. Stetten at the University of Pittsburgh. In that work, I developed a novel surgical robot that provides in-situ force feedback, the Hand-Held Force Magnifier (HHFM). In particular, our work examines the extent to which hand-held robotic tools can assist surgeons as they perform procedures near the limits of their sensory and motor control capabilities. The device was validated using the methods of psychophysics, and published in peer-reviewed journals such as Experimental Brain Research and Transactions on Haptics.Prior to enrolling as a PhD student, I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in May 2012, earning a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Before coming to Pittsburgh, I graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering in June 2010.My research interests include medical devices, surgical robotics, haptics, and psychophysics.
