About Raksha A. Changappa
Nutrition & Dietetics is a subject I was introduced to at age 17, in the first year of my BSc Dietetics, & was academically bound to for 5 years till the final year of my MSc Nutrition. I’ve worked over 20 years, pushing the envelope of my field, with peaks & troughs. • WorkI started my private practice in 2008, centered around Basic Dietetics eg diets for weight loss, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, etal. I soon realized these diets were mundane & simple to formulate. I needed to challenge the scope of my field & I did by pioneering proprietary medical diets for complex or refractory diseases (SLE, HIV, Sjogrens, Barretts esophagous etal) in India, starting 2010.• Academics Awareness of academics of a dietitian is on a global low. An allied health field like physiotherapy, psychology, podiatry, its now an prime example of occupation appropriation by just about anyone. I was awarded a BSc Honors in Dietetics by a UGC accredited University, via a full time, formal (India 10+2+3 scheme) course. Topped my college in Dietetics. A BSc Dietetics is the default degree to qualify as a dietitian in USA, UK, Canada & Australia. An MSc Nutrition & 3 Gold Medal/s followed, on completion of the full time course in a UGC accredited research institute. Was among 75 university 1st rank holders, out of 31,698 students from 400 Bangalore colleges, who earned their Bachelors, Masters & PhDs that year.
