ABOUT RAKIBUL AHASAN

I’m a Product Engineer on Esri’s Spatial Analyst team, where I design & develop functionalities that transform spatial data into decision-ready maps. My focus is on expanding the capabilities of Spatial Analyst & Raster Analysis tools to solve real-world problems more efficiently across ArcGIS products.Beyond my role at Esri, I study to understand the interplay between urban system components and global sustainability through a land systems science lens, human-environment interactions, and land change modeling. I am interested in understanding the interaction between urban expansion and infrastructure development. This includes analyzing the role of road network development and accessibility in urban spatial configurations and interactions. I have developed a spatially explicit, hierarchical road-growth model capable of forecasting road development at any scale based on road hierarchy and patterns. I have also developed an integrated, coevolving urban land change model that captures the interaction between urban growth and road development. I use spatial, statistical, and econometric modeling and other geospatial analysis techniques & tools in my research to examine the impacts of infrastructure development and urban growth on different aspects of global sustainability, biodiversity and conservation.
