ABOUT RAJAJI KRISHNAMACHARI
A Chartered Engineer and a senior engineering leader with over 23 years of experience mostly with real-time systems implementing high integrity requirements for both safety and mission criticality. I have worked in Rail, Avionics, Gas Detection and defence domains with majority of experience within the Rail domain. In my current role, as Head of Safety Assurance for Siemens Mobility, Rail Infrastructure, UK, I am responsible for managing a team of specialist Safety and Reliability engineers, many of them are chartered engineers with experience ranging from 10 years to 36 years in safety critical industry, to deliver major railway signalling programmes across the UK and abroad. Major projects include Cross Rail, East Coast Main Line, Transpennine Route Upgrade, European Train Control System (ETCS) Freight Fitment and Taiwan Metro. The delivered projects include several recontrol, relock, resignalling projects of varying size and criticality for Network Rail in the UK. I played a key role in major bid programmes such as, Irish Rail, Train Control System Framework (TCSF), several packages of High Speed 2, Midlands Rail Hub, supporting the Safety and Interoperability aspects. In this role, I manage and deliver on an average of above 1.5 million pounds worth of Reliability Availability Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) engineering effort every year.I manage every aspect of running this critical function within the business, starting from defining the strategic goals for this function, evaluate the technical scope of work, provide estimates for the RAMS programme, provision of competent resources to complete a RAMS programme, ensure deliverables are produced to schedule, of right quality and within budget, adherence of internal governance, Independent safety assessment body selection, development of offshore resources, supplier management, internal/external stakeholder management, escalation management, management reporting, competency management, team management, recruitment and many more aspects.I am presently part of the Control Command and Signalling National Technical Safety Notices (NTSN)/ Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI) Mirror Group chaired by Railway Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), representing Siemens Mobility. This group monitors the TSIs and consider the changes to the NTSNs.I have worked in rail, avionics, and defence domains developing, testing software. I have worked as Independent Safety Assessor for Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL 4) signalling systems and SIL 2 Platform Screen Doors Systems.
