About Raj Swaminathan
As a seasoned senior executive in the energy sector, Raj Swaminathan led all global development activities for BECCS as Executive Vice President with Drax Group, PLC. He joined Drax in late 2022. Prior to that, he was a VP at CMS Energy leading their IPP development and M&A. With diverse leadership experience in domestic and global energy, utility, and independent power producers, he brings over two decades of experience leading global energy project development, financing, structuring, acquisitions, and divestitures. He has led projects across the energy sector in gas cogeneration, wind and solar generation, energy storage, electric and gas distribution, oil and gas exploration, and pipelines. Raj’s international expertise includes energy project development, financing, acquisitions and divestitures in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. He has served as a Director on utility boards in Brazil and Venezuela, and an internet startup in the US. As an accomplished and experienced executive at multiple global energy companies, Raj is well-versed in corporate finance, planning, strategy, and risk management. He is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals, CFA Institute, Engineering Society of Detroit among other professional organizations. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance (CEBA) which is a membership association for large-scale energy buyers seeking to procure clean energy across the U.S. Raj’s academic credentials include a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mumbai, India, and an MBA (finance) from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business. He also is a chartered financial analyst (CFA). He has expanded his leadership skills through executive education courses at Harvard University and the Center for Creative Leadership.
