ABOUT RAIO G. KRISHNAYYA
Raio Krishnayya is the founder and executive director of the Center for Victim and Human Rights (CVHR). He has been a practicing attorney for ten years with a focus in crime-victim and human rights issues. His background in crime-victim rights began while working for the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office in St. Charles, Illinois where he investigated and tried domestic-violence related cases. After working for the state’s attorney’s office, he helped immigrant victims of domestic violence by representing them in petitions for special visas under the Violence Against Women Act through his pro bono work with the Legal Assistance Foundation in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to attending law school, Raio served as an assistant probation officer in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, conducting pre-sentence investigations and supervising medium-risk offenders. In recognition of his criminal justice experience, Raio was appointed co-chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Committee on Victim where he assisted in the development of the ABA’s revised Fair Treatment Guidelines. As the executive director, Raio is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of the CVHR, which include intake analysis and strategizing, supervising both attorney and non-attorney staff and volunteers, as well as conducting research and analysis into crime-victim and human rights issues. He also maintains a client caseload, representing immigrant victims of crime in their petitions for U-visas and focuses on T-visas as well as asylum cases.
