I’m Rahul Madhav Deshpande, a Mechanical Engineering student at Penn State with a minor in Mechatronics. I’m passionate about building practical solutions at the intersection of robotics, advanced manufacturing, and medical devices.I’ve worked across aerospace, robotics, and the Med-devices industry. At NASA’s L’SPACE Mission Concept Academy, I contributed to the power subsystem design for a Venus Aerobot mission, developing solar and battery systems for extreme Venusian conditions. At Siemens Centre of Excellence, I programmed CNC operations with Sinumerik and modeled robotic kinematics in ROS2, improving path repeatability by 20%. I also gained industry experience at Larsen & Toubro, applying machine learning to voice assistant technologies, and at BEML, optimizing manufacturing processes and safety for heavy vehicles.On campus, I co-founded and now lead Penn State’s Hyperloop Development Team, bringing together 25+ students from 8 engineering disciplines to design sustainable transportation systems. I’ve also led projects through ASME, including advanced RC cars with improved suspension systems.Currently, I’m part of biomedical research at Penn State, working on transparent ultrasound transducers (TUTs) for integrating photoacoustic imaging into TRUS probes to detect prostate cancer non-invasively, while also enabling neuromodulation studies in awake mouse models.I enjoy taking on challenges that push me to learn and innovate, especially in robotics, medical technology, and sustainable engineering.
