About Rahaf Alharbi
Rahaf Alharbi is an Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute, School of Information. She recently completed her Ph.D. in Information at the University of Michigan (UM). Her research is at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI), accessibility, responsible artificial intelligence (RAI), and disability studies. Broadly, Rahaf’s research prioritizes the expertise and lived experiences of disabled people to reimagine assistive technologies in ways that align with their needs and aspirations. Rahaf also has experience working at Microsoft Research and Meta, where her research influenced the design of products. Her work has been published in premier venues, including the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) and the ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work & Social Computing (CSCW). Rahaf’s research has garnered several awards, such as the UM Predoctoral Fellowship and the Gary M. Olson Outstanding Ph.D. Student Award. Prior to coming to the University of Michigan, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, San Diego.
