   DR. RAM GOPAL GUPTA was working as Senior Director in the Ministry of Information Technology, which is the key Ministry given a leading edge to India in promoting Information Technology and its Specific Applications to e-governance with a aim to bring Public Services Closer Home. The assignment includes initiating measure to use ICT tools for the enhancement of productivity and employment generation in different sectors of economy. Earlier to this, I was responsible for the research and development programs including the utilization and commercialization of technologies and services developed by this Ministry at various R&D, academic institutes, industries and NGOs. Some of the technologies include applications for rural and social upliftment of weaker segments. Has taken major initiatives to promote and make India the Global R&D Hub for ICT. Played a major role in establishing two scientific establishments namely SAMEER and CDAC in the areas of microwave, EMI/EMC and supercomputing. Established a Center for electronic packaging technology and ergonomic design under the support of UNDP/UNIDO. THE AESS is pleased to announce that Dr. Ram Gopal Gupta (see Fig. 1) is the recipient of the 2011 MGS leadership award with the following citation:“For his distinguished leadership and outstanding contributions as a volunteer, at the Section and Regional levels, serving the for the benefit of its members and the engineering profession by popularizing in local industry and common engineering students” [Dr. Gupta has exceptional credentials in one of the most important and growing market, India, Region 10. His activities include communications, IT, aerospace, and defense, systems-of-systems, ATM and systems development to “Advancing Technology for Humanity” (and earlier “Advancing Global Prosperity”)[2].Dr. Gupta, serving in the BoG of AESS and the BoG of Photonic Society.
