About Raghu Gatta
An experienced Software Development Manager with a demonstrated history of shipping several dozen products & services across a 25+ year history. Currently working on Microsoft\'s Quantum Computing effort building the world\'s first commercial (level 2) Quantum Machine.Over this span, I\'ve had the opportunity to work on several client, device and cloud technologies: Networking (DNS, DHCP, Routing, Firewall, TCP/IPv4/6 etc), Windows, Phone, Shell, UX, Azure Services, Superconducting EDA tech, Supercomputers, AI/Copilot & Quantum Computing.
Experience
Senior Director Software Engineering
Apr 2018 — Present · Redmond, WA, US
Development of the world\'s first commercial hybrid Quantum Computer (#Magne) with logical qubits composed of error corrected physical qubits using neutral atom tech. Pioneering techniques to build a general purpose fault tolerant quantum computer.• Development of a full stack scalable Azure Quantum Machine with fault tolerant error corrected topological qubits, the first of its kind. My team designs & develops the core control and readout system software & firmware necessary to operate our first party Quantum Computer. Responsibilities include custom instrumentation firmware + hardware to operate at scale.• Microsoft Discovery - development of a \"supercomputing as a service\" solution for HPC Chemistry, Material Science, Pharma & other scientific workloads. Architected & designed a new Azure native service from scratch built on top of several Microsoft cloud services. An accelerator solution that ties traditional HPC with AI & Quantum technology.• Created & deployed a Quantum Copilot (using Azure OpenAI generative LLMs)- using a retrieval augmented generation pattern across custom data sources.• Development of a Control system for a Quantum Computer based on a classical computer architecture to interface with qubit hardware at cryogenic temperatures (0.01 - 4 Kelvin).• An advanced EDA software suite to develop a new generation of chips (post CMOS) which uses superconductors to build single flux quantum based digital logic. No other equivalent EDA toolset is known to exist.• Development of several novel algorithms to solve problems in the superconducting space.• Large “tented” project critical to the future of Azure.• Rapid development schedule with multiplatform capability. Azure DevOps to track & manage all aspects of several projects.• Managing a large, senior team of multidisciplinary engineers + several partner teams (inside & outside MS).
