As CISO of NJ TRANSIT, America’s third-largest transit agency, Rafi Khan leads the cybersecurity program protecting that trust across a nearly $5 billion operating environment spanning operational technology, IT infrastructure, and federal regulatory compliance. His path into cybersecurity began not in IT but in nuclear medicine, a discipline demanding precision, data privacy awareness, and deep empathy for human impact. A board-certified graduate of the School of Nuclear Medicine Technology at the VA Medical Center, with executive education at Harvard Business School and MIT Sloan, he carries that clinical rigor into one of the most consequential cybersecurity roles in American public infrastructure. Under his leadership, NJ TRANSIT became the first transit agency in the U.S. to achieve both ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 certification now in its fifth consecutive year, establishing a national benchmark for security and resilience in public transit.
