ABOUT RAECHEL WASTESICOOT
Raechel Wastesicoot (nee Bonomo) is a mixed Kanien’kehá:ka storyteller, beadworker and communications professional with a passion to connect people with each other, to the land and our shared future. By day she works as the internal communications manager with a focus on Indigenous communications for the Nature Conservancy of Canada. In her position, she helps to amplify employee’s voices, and communicate changes and growth effectively to strengthen the organization from within. Since 2019, she has managed an internal communications program that empowers employees with the knowledge, confidence and trust to work together toward collaborative goals and the organization’s bigger picture. She also helps to evolve EDI initiatives and help educate employees on how to effectively build land-based relationships with Indigenous communities. Her education is in print and web journalism (2015), with a post-graduate in Online & Social Media Communications from the University of Toronto (2018) and has obtained a post-graduate from Toronto Metropolitan University (Ryerson) in Indigenous Studies (2019). She is also passionate about helping Indigenous youth connect to their culture through land-based teachings, nature conservation, beadwork and food. Her work is currently published on several platforms, including the Robert McLaughlin Art Gallery blog, the Art Gallery of Ontario\'s blog, FASHION Magazine, Huffpost, ON Magazine, and in several issues of the Nature Conservancy of Canada\'s quarterly magazine.
